Over the decades, Africa has managed to be producers of agro products worldwide but
has little or less focus in agro-processing. Ghana is the third largest producers of cassava on the
African continent, growing up to about 25,592,014.08 tons a year, yet have little to a few companies in
the cassava processing industry. In
starch production, below are the necessary procedure undertaken to achieve a quality starch for all
industries as required:
Starch Production Flowchart:
CLEANING AND WASHING: Thoroughly cleaning the sourced cassava roots.
GRINDING AND CRUSHING: Breaking down the cassava to release starch granules.
SLURRY PREPARATION: Mixing the ground cassava with water to create a slurry.
SEPARATION: Separating the starch from fibers and other impurities.
REFINING: Further purifying the starch slurry.
DEWATERING: Removing excess water from the refined starch.
DRYING: Drying the starch to achieve the final product.
