CASSAVA STARCH PRODUCTION

Over the decades, Africa has managed to be producers of agro products worldwide but has little or less focus in agro-processing. Ghana is the third largest producers of cassava on the African continent, growing up to about 25,592,014.08 tons a year, yet have little to a few companies in the cassava processing industry. In starch production, below are the necessary procedure undertaken to achieve a quality starch for all industries as required:

Starch Production Flowchart:

  1. CLEANING AND WASHING: Thoroughly cleaning the sourced cassava roots.
  2. GRINDING AND CRUSHING: Breaking down the cassava to release starch granules.
  3. SLURRY PREPARATION: Mixing the ground cassava with water to create a slurry.
  4. SEPARATION: Separating the starch from fibers and other impurities.
  5. REFINING: Further purifying the starch slurry.
  6. DEWATERING: Removing excess water from the refined starch.
  7. DRYING: Drying the starch to achieve the final product.
